Water damages are split into categories. Category 1 is clean water that comes from a fresh source. This is water that hasn’t been standing for very long.
Category 2 water is gray water. This water has come from a source outside of a fresh water pipe. Like rain water that has leaked through the structure or water that has been standing more than 24-48 hours.
Category 3 water is considered black water. This water comes from a source like a septic tank or sewer back up. Water like this is grossly contaminated and needs to be remediated appropriately.
